Rachel Black

With a B.F.A. in painting and ten years of corporate design stored in my professional tool chest, I now embrace the freedom and joy of autonomy in my career and creative journey. I am an insatiable traveler, so my work has been influenced and shaped by the architecture, textiles, patterns, and colors of Europe and Asia. As an ever-evolving artist, I am inspired by the unconventional techniques and remarkable visions of Hans Hoffman, Willem de Kooning, Keith Haring, and Jean Michel Basquiat. When working with oil, acrylic, and spray paints combined with enamel, charcoal, pastels, crayons, and markers, I rarely hold a brush, preferring to “sculpt” my work using scrapers, rollers, hands and even applying paint straight from the tube.

I invite you to delight in my visual playground. If you must seek meaning in my work, find it in the vibrant colors, rough textures, and playful techniques. There you will find my happiness—and perhaps yours, too.
